Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Atanu Hembram, a resident of Bankra Dakshin Palli, was arrested by the local police after attacking a person with a sharp weapon. Hembram, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, had attempted to forcibly enter a woman’s house in the area but was stopped. Following the resistance, he allegedly assaulted a resident with a knife, causing alarm among the local community.
In response to the attack and ongoing disturbances caused by Hembram, local residents vandalized his house, bike, and car. The community also physically restrained Hembram and handed him over to the Bankra police station. The police have confirmed that they took the accused into custody and initiated further investigation into the incident.
The attack occurred the day after a written complaint was filed against Hembram by a local resident at the police station, citing his repeated misconduct in the area. Despite the complaint, Hembram’s aggressive behavior continued, resulting in the recent violent incident. Authorities are currently handling the case as part of maintaining law and order in Bankra Dakshin Palli.
